Sujit Choudhry, the Professor of Law

Sujit Choudhry joined a team of constitutional experts that consisted of some of the most notable personalities to discuss about the Ukraine government’s semi presidential system. They talked about the constitutional challenges the system was facing, being hosted by intergovernmental organizations, international institute for electorate assistance and democracy and the center of policy making and legal reforms.

As pointed out by Sujit, the instability of Ukraine democratization has been caused by lack of strong political parties, concentration of the presidential power and the legislature electoral system. In order to successfully achieve democracy in Ukraine, these factors should be prioritized.

Choudhry has lectured about constitutional processes and reforms in many different countries around the world. He has released a collection of classic articles and academic contributions in several of his publications including Sujit Choudhry’s ‘constitutional making’. Center for constitutional Transitions is comprised of a team of experts from different countries who bring together ideas, solving many constitutional, security, and democratic problems. It supports constitutional building by partnering with think tanks, global networks of multilateral organizations and NGOs.

He is an internationally recognized authority and has served at the University of California as the I. Michael Heyman professor of law, Berkeley School of Law. He has been an advisor to many countries on constitutional building processes such as in South Africa, Sri Lanka, Ukraine Libya, Nepal, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan and Egypt. He currently serves as the Director at the Center for Constitutional Transitions.

He has carried out many researches addressing issues relating to politics and comparative constitutional law. Through his research, he has been able to come up with solutions on how to deal with transitional crises in societies that are divided by ethnicity.
