Sujit Choudhry Providing Suggestions to Help Revive Ukraine from Political Crisis

Sujit Choudhry is considered to be one of the most influential personalities in the world of comparative law. He has studied law from three of the top universities in the world, including Harvard University, Oxford University, and Toronto University. He believes that the countries across the globe are not using comparative law constructively to solve many of the issues that have manifested in the world. Recently, Sujit Choudhry was invited to a conference in Kiev where the political and social situation in Ukraine was discussed to find a solution that could put the country back on track. It is a well-known fact that Ukraine has been undergoing political crisis for the last many years that has caused social unrest and financial turmoil in the country as well. At the conference, Sujit Choudhry said that the electoral process followed in Ukraine is weak and not transparent and needs to be changed. He stated that once the electoral process is changed in a constitutional manner, many of the underlying issues would be addressed too simultaneously. Sujit Choudhry also mentioned that one of the major problems of the country is the semi-presidential system that is being followed in Ukraine for last many decades. He believes that such a system doesn’t let the concentration of power remain with one leader, and thus, any major decision and policy making process is negatively impacted. Sujit Choudhry said that Ukraine also lacks the presence of any powerful and influential party that can keep the government on its toes or help in the emergence of a powerful leader that the public can trust.
