Sujit Choudhry Helping Find Solution to Ongoing Conflict in Ukraine

Sujit Choudhry has been a prominent name in the world when it comes to constitutional building or comparative law. He has spoken in numerous countries over the years about the importance of comparative law and what roles does it play in today’s political and social scenario. Sujit Choudhry believes that as many countries are witnessing significant political and social unrest, the implementation of the comparative law and making substantial changes in the constitutional law can play a pivotal role in reversing the situation positively. Sujit Choudhry was recently invited to the conference held in the capital city of Ukraine, Kiev to discuss the issues that have been damaging the country and to find an amicable and practical solution to it within the constitutional framework.

As a constitutional expert and the co-founder of Center for Constitutional Transitions, Sujit Choudhry was a natural choice for the conference. He believes that a country such as Ukraine that has tremendous potential to become progressive with all its natural resources and intellectual community should have a strong constitution as well. However, he mentioned that the constitution of the country has certain weaknesses that needs changes, and which can be facilitated with the help of comparative law and its methodologies. Also, Sujit Choudhry said that the country follows the age old semi-presidential system that has many flaws in it, and which is the source of all the conflicts present in the country today. Sujit Choudhry said that the semi-presidential system would not allow either the President or the Prime Minister to be in absolute power, and which can come in the way of the benefit of the country. Sujit Choudhry said that the country’s electoral process needs to be thoroughly scrutinized as there are several discrepancies found in the process followed currently.
