PROFILE OF MARK OLIVIERI,
Advertising Director for the South Division of GateHouse Media (formerly Community Newspaper Company), Marshfield, MA
By Donna Erickson, Owner of A Flair For Writing
Mark Olivieri began his newspaper career more than 15 years ago as an Account Executive for Harte Hanks Newspapers. He remained with the company through several merger and ownership changes. Today, the company is known as GateHouse Media New England and employs about 1500 individuals in Massachusetts.
Unlike regional and national news sources, GateHouse Media produces print and online publications for nearly every town in eastern Massachusetts. Mark is responsible for managing a full staff of Advertising Account Executives, who do business with clients based in south area territories. All together, there are three South Shore offices - located in Marshfield, Plymouth, and Raynham - with a total of 126 employees. One of their more well-known, online products is the highly successful website, www.wickedlocal.com.
Mark loves the challenge and diversity that his job offers. “The industry has changed so much since my career began,” he said. Years ago, the job was limited to selling ads in weekly publications. Today, newspapers are just a small part of the company’s products. Mark explained, “Online opportunities, inserts, niche products, and front page Ad Notes have allowed our company so much more than a standard in-paper campaign.”
Looking forward to the re-establishment of the South Shore Ad Club, Mark feels that it will fill a void in a much-needed area. He concluded that he is enthused about belonging to a “group of professionals who will meet on a monthly basis and bring to light that there are great marketing products and services right here on the South Shore.”
